Family Ties to Legacy

THE  FTL FAMILY PLEDGE

"Til We Meet Again  "STATEMENT ".

If we forget our Ancestors, our children will no longer give us honor

If we lose the path our Ancestors cleared in perilous undergrowth, our children cannot find their way

If we banish the God of our Ancestors, our children cannot pray

If the old wails of our Ancestors fade beyond our hearing, our children cannot hear us crying

If we abandon our wisdom of mothering and fathering, our children become befuddled giving birth to children they neither want nor understand

If we forget how to love, the adversary is within our gates, and holds us up to the mirror of the world shouting "regard the loveless"

THEREFORE

We pledge to bind ourselves to one another

To embrace our lowest

To keep company with our loneliest

To educate our illiterate

To feed our starving

To clothe our ragged

In honor of those who toiled and implored God with golden tongues, and in gratitude to the same God who brough us out of hopeless dissolution

WE MAKE THIS PLEDGE

Strive for discipline, dedication and achievement in all you do.  Dare to struggle and sacrifice and gain the strength that comes from this.

Build where you are and dare leave a legacy that will last as long as the sun shines and the water flows.  Practice daily Umoja, Kujichagulia, Ujima, Ujamaa, Nia Kuumba and Imani; and may the wisdom of the ancestors always walk with us.

May this year's end meet us laughing and stronger. May our children honor us by following our example in love and struggle.

At the next reunion may we sit again together, in larger numbers, with greater achievements, and closer to liberation and a higher level of human life
